GENERATING BIOGAS IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY

DIGESTATE TREATMENT & FERTILISER

In many rural areas, it remains common practice for farmers to spread cow or pig manure directly onto fields as a natural fertiliser to enhance soil fertility and crop yields. However, this method has several drawbacks, including methane emissions that contribute to climate change, groundwater pollution, and unpleasant odours in the surrounding area.

There is, however, a much more environmentally friendly approach to improving soil fertility. During the anaerobic digestion process in biogas plants, bacteria produce methane while leaving behind a nutrient-rich liquid known as digestate. Recycling and reusing organic material as digestate offers significant environmental and economic benefits.

The greatest advantage of digestate is its ability to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions. When applied as a fertiliser or compost, digestate enriches the soil without releasing harmful gases into the atmosphere.

As a comprehensive biogas plant provider, we not only ensure efficient biogas and biomethane production but also offer complete digestate treatment services. This includes separating digestate into liquid and solid fractions, reducing its water content to enhance transportability and storage. Additionally, our hygienisation process removes pathogens, ensuring that only high-quality fertiliser is applied to fields. This improves soil health, reduces costs, and protects the environment.

WASTE WATER TREATMENT – BOTRES LOX TECHNOLOGY: AN IDEAL COMPLEMENT TO THE BIOGAS PROCESS

Botres Global’s wastewater technology for high-strength ammonia streams offers a cost-effective alternative to conventional nitrification/denitrification systems. Our innovative process involves three stages, including low oxygen (LOX) aerobic and anoxic biological treatment of digestate, eliminating ammonia, combined with subsequent ultrafiltration (UF) and optional reverse osmosis (RO). This approach significantly reduces energy consumption and eliminates the need for external organic carbon, while efficiently converting ammonia into nitrogen gas. By integrating this system into biogas production, we enhance overall efficiency, creating a sustainable, closed-loop solution for waste and energy management.
